Scrub clearance carried out in February and March by the Friends of Lamplighter’s Marsh (FOLM) to make the area more accessible to people and, to encourage invertebrates in the grass alongside the Yellow Brick Road.
The next Activity Day is 2nd April when we will be cutting back buddleia that could overwhelm notable plants.
We have Activity Days on the first Saturday of each month and this can be scrub clearance, litter picking, seed collection or scattering dependant on the time of year. All of the ecology work is agreed beforehand with Bristol City Council’s Nature Conservation Officer.
Shirehampton Community Action Forum organises nature walks – subject to funding – in the Nature Reserve that are led by experienced naturalists.
FOLM became aware in March that the Nature Reserve is the only known British site of the Ceratodon conicus moss. There is also a diminutive sedum that is awaiting identification.
